Since its exports started to reach the United States in 1970, Mazda has gone from a run-of-the-mill Japanese economy car to an innovative powerhouse in the automotive industry thanks to its innovative designs and constant upgrades. The 2015 model year brings seven exciting Mazdas to the forefront. Here’s the best of the bunch.
Mazda MX-5 Miata
If you’re in the market for an affordable sports car, look no further than the Mazda MX-5 Miata. The two-seater convertible, starting at $24,915, offers power, handling, and agility that most cars at the same price just don’t offer. Although it has only a 2.0 liter, four-cylinder engine, its low weight more than makes up for the smaller engine by offering similar power to competitors, while also boasting 36 miles a gallon on the highway. You can also get the hardtop version for only a few thousand dollars more. It features a retractable hardtop that goes up or down in a mere 12 seconds.
Ranked second out 27 cars by U.S. News in the affordable compact group, the Mazda3 offers a plethora of features for only $17,845. Perhaps the best aspect of the car is its impressive interior specs, including a rearview camera, USB ports, seven-inch touchscreen display, and HD radio. If you’re willing to pony up a few extra dollars, there are some cool options like a moonroof, nine-speaker Bose soundsystem, and additional safety features. It’s pretty sharp-looking to boot, and it gets over 40 miles a gallon on the highway.
In just the third year of the model, the CX-5 has risen to become one of the highest ranked crossovers on the market. It has nearly all the bells and whistles of the Mazda3, but with several perks of its own, including extra cargo space for those with a family or extra gear. Gas mileage is also a strong perk of the CX-5, as it earns 35 miles a gallon on the highway and 26 miles a gallon in the city. It also has seven different trims, which offer automatic or manual transmission, and the option of all-wheel drive, starting at $21,795.
A smaller version of its sibling, the CX-5, the CX-3 offers many of the same great advantages. With 2.0 liter, four-cylinder engine, the compact SUV gives great fuel economy at 35 miles a gallon on the highway and 29 in the city, while still pushing 146 horsepower. The vehicle’s reviewers have also pointed out it handles greater than any other vehicle on the Mazda production line, with sporty acceleration and exemplary handling. It also has the Mazda Connect infotainment system. This interface allows Bluetooth connectivity, smartphone interaction, GPS, apps, and Internet radio, all easily navigable through a few touches of a button. The CX-3 starts at $19,960.
Everyone in the market for a vehicle has individual requirements for his or her purchase. For most buyers, the new model year for Mazda addresses nearly all of these needs. Whether you’re a parent, bachelor, or someone in his or her mid-life stage, you’ll be happy driving off the lot in one these slick new rides.
